RECYCLING
Recycling provides an example of the collaboration involved in successful and sustainable material management. Households and businesses do their part to separate recyclable materials from their trash. We do our part to collect, sort, and process them into high-quality raw materials for manufacturers to use in new products. We also serve as public advocates for the advancement of materials manufacturing and recovery. Recycling works best when we all play our parts well.

Helping Vermonters Recycle More
Many common household items are not accepted in curbside recycling bins. Casella has teamed up with TerraCycle® to solve this problem with a brand new service that will help customers recycle more. Beginning in the Fall of 2022, residents in and around Burlington will be invited to subscribe to a supplementary recycling service for a wide array of items that are not acceptable in curbside recycling. The new service will collect and recycle plastic bags, flexible and foam packaging, plastic utensils, coffee capsules, and more. With this pilot program, Casella will be one of the first waste companies to offer additional recycling services for materials that are not recyclable curbside.

Recycling Robots
For more than 45 years Casella has been committed to giving resources new life. From establishing the first recycling facility in Vermont in 1977 to the recent installation of robotic sorting guided by artificial intelligence at the Rutland, VT Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in 2022, one goal remains the same: recycle more and Recycle Better™. Designed to reduce contamination in the recycling system and support the current labor force, the launch of Casella’s AMP Robotics pilot was made possible through grant funding support from The Recycling Partnership and further demonstrated the capabilities and positive environmental impacts of innovative recycling.
